What is AppsFlyer, and does your app need it?

In one lineAppsFlyer is a mobile measurement partner (MMP). It sits inside your app and tells you which ad, channel or link brought each new user, so you can see which marketing is worth the money.
Think of it like this

AppsFlyer is like a referee at a relay race. Several ad networks all shout "that user was mine!", and the referee looks at the evidence and decides who really passed the baton.

What AppsFlyer does

When you advertise an app on Google, Meta, TikTok and Apple at the same time, each network reports its own results. Added together, they often claim more installs than you actually got. Each one is marking its own homework.

AppsFlyer is a neutral checker. It is one of the best-known mobile measurement partners, or MMPs. It collects the facts from every network and from your app, then decides which touchpoint gets credit for each install and each later action, like a purchase. This is called attribution.

How it works, simply

  1. Add the SDK. A developer puts AppsFlyer's code into the iOS and Android app.
  2. Connect your ad networks. In the AppsFlyer dashboard you switch on each partner, such as Google, Meta or TikTok.
  3. Send in-app events. You choose which actions to track, like "registration" or "first purchase".
  4. AppsFlyer matches. When someone installs, it checks which ad they tapped or saw and assigns credit. It then sends that result back to the winning network so its algorithm can learn.

On iPhone, Apple limits user-level tracking. There, AppsFlyer also reads Apple's privacy-safe reports from SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit and turns them into something readable.

Plans and pricing

AppsFlyer lists three plans on its pricing page, as of November 2026:

PlanWho it is forPrice model
ZeroApps using only owned media (no paid ads)Free; includes 12K conversions in the first year
GrowthStartups beginning paid campaignsPay as you go; $0.07 per conversion after the first 12K
EnterpriseLarger brands wanting a tailored planCustom quote

AppsFlyer says the Zero plan is not suitable for apps with paid activity. Prices can change, so confirm on their site before you budget.

AppsFlyer vs other MMPs

The main alternatives are Adjust and Branch. All three do core attribution. The choice often comes down to price, how your team likes the dashboard, which deep linking style you need, and which networks your industry relies on. It is normal to ask each for a demo and a quote.

One practical tip: switching MMPs later is painful. It means a new SDK, new links, new event names and a break in your history. Spend an extra week choosing, and pick the tool you can see yourself using for several years.

Cost and timeline

Basic setup is usually quick: add the SDK, connect two or three networks, test on real devices. Plan extra time to map your in-app events, set up iOS conversion values and check that numbers line up with your ad dashboards. Budget for the monthly fee as your conversions grow.

How Appryze uses AppsFlyer

When an app is ready for paid growth across more than one network, we set up an MMP like AppsFlyer, map the events that predict revenue, and use those numbers, not the networks' own claims, to move budget. The account belongs to you. See our app marketing page.

Common questions

What is an MMP?

MMP stands for mobile measurement partner. It is a neutral tool inside your app that works out which ad or link brought each user and what they did next. AppsFlyer, Adjust and Branch are well-known examples. Ad networks share data with MMPs so results can be compared fairly.

Is AppsFlyer free?

AppsFlyer has a free Zero plan with 12,000 conversions in the first year, but it says that plan is not suitable for apps running paid ads. Its Growth plan is pay as you go, and Enterprise is priced by quote. Check the pricing page for current terms.

Does AppsFlyer work with iOS privacy rules?

Yes. On iPhone, AppsFlyer supports Apple's privacy-safe attribution through SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit. It cannot see more than Apple allows, but it collects and organizes Apple's reports so you can compare iOS campaigns across networks.

When should a startup add AppsFlyer?

A common point is when you start paying for ads on two or more networks, or when you need reliable deep links for campaigns. Before that, free in-app analytics are often enough. Adding the SDK early does make later setup easier.
